Florida State fans won’t have a football game to look forward to this weekend, but the athletic programs continue to put together a solid week in general. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

Miami Hurricane fans will have to wait for another sport to see a victory over Florida State, since FSU volleyball traveled down to Coral Gables Wednesday night and swept Miami by scores of 25-12, 25-15, and 25-22. The Seminoles wasted no time in getting ahead, sometimes leading by double digits at various times throughout the three sets.

Milica Kubura led the Seminoles with 12 kills and Melanie Keil stood tall with nine blocks at the net. It was the team’s fourth straight victory and puts their overall record at 15-3 and ACC record at 8-1.

Their next match is on Friday against the Virginia Cavaliers. The match is in Charlotesville and will begin at 7 p.m. EST.

Between the Lines

Outside of the straight set volleyball victory at Miami, there were no other FSU athletic events on Wednesday.

On the Agenda

Men’s tennis is hosting the USTA/ITA Southeast Regional Championships. The event runs all day at FSU.

No. 9 FSU soccer hosts the No. 4 Duke Blue Devils in a top 10 match-up. The contest will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra starting at 7 p.m. EST.

News and Notes

FSU basketball sophomore Dwayne Bacon was named to the Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year Award watch list on Wednesday.

Jimbo Fisher’s Call-In Show Wednesday confirmed that safety Derwin James’ return for the Clemson game was unlikely. Fisher elaborated that James is healing well, but that coming back in for Clemson would be worrying.

The USA Today Coaches Poll for men’s basketball was released Thursday. FSU did not make the top 25, but received the most votes of any team who did not.
