The Daily Nole — Oct. 14, 2016: Jackson Lueck Shines in Fall Scrimmage

We’re only one day away from Saturday, Florida State fans. That’s when FSU will take on Wake Forest. In the meantime, there’s plenty of FSU news to report. The news and notes section in this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

Florida State played the first of its two Garnet and Gold games on Thursday and the star of the show was sophomore outfielder Jackson Lueck. Lueck had three extra base hits on Thursday for the Garnet team in a 7-5 win, including two home runs.

The first homer was of the inside-the-park variety before blasting a 3-run shot that easily cleared the yard. Lueck also doubled in the contest.

After splitting time early in the year, Lueck eventually emerged as the everyday left fielder as a freshman. Lueck finished the year hitting .379 with four home runs and 35 RBIs and so far, is showing no signs of a sophomore slump.

Between the Lines

Both the Florida State men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams lost to rival Florida on Thursday. The men’s team was defeated 170-130. The women kept it a bit closer, falling 157-143.

On the Agenda

The FSU cross country team will split to participate in two events. Some will participate in the Crimson Classic in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Others will be at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational in Madison.

Both FSU baseball and softball will participate in Garnet and Gold scrimmages. The FSU softball team will also take on Chipola College in an exhibition. FSU volleyball will host Virginia Tech at 7 p.m. EST.

News and Notes

Florida State quarterback Deondre Francois, who was banged around in last week’s win over Miami, will start Saturday against Wake Forest. Backup quarterback Sean Maguire is listed as questionable with a nagging foot injury.
