The Daily Nole — Oct. 7, 2016: FSU-Miami to Go On While Others Cancelled

Good morning, Florida State fans. Hopefully, everyone stayed safe during Hurricane Matthew. Before you worry about another set of Hurricanes, check out what else is going on in the FSU world. The news and notes section will be updated.

Lead Story

Football games scheduled for Gainesville, Orlando and Columbia, South Carolina have been either postponed or canceled, but Florida State and Miami are expected to meet with no changes on Saturday.

Several ideas had been tossed around concerning the rivalry showdown set for 8 p.m. EST at Hard Rock Stadium. Some of those included moving the contest to Tampa or pushing it back to Monday. As of now, the game looks like it will go on as planned.

Between the Lines

Florida State soccer fell to Boston College 2-1 on Thursday night for its first ACC loss of the season. Hayley Dowd scored the game-winner for the Eagles 51 minutes in. Laura Berman got the scoring started for Boston College in the 16th minute, but Dallas Dorosy answered less than 10 minutes later for FSU.

Goalkeepers Alexis Bryant for Boston College and Cassie Miller for FSU each had three saves. Kirsten McFarland assisted on the only FSU goal.

On the Agenda

The Florida State men’s tennis team is in action in Atlanta at the Georgia Tech Invitational. The cross country team hosted the FSU Invitational. The FSU volleyball team will take on North Carolina in Chapel Hill at 6 p.m. EST. The match will air on ACC Network Extra.

News and Notes

According to reports, Florida State’s flight for South Florida has left. The team will take on Miami at 8 p.m. EST on Saturday.

Saturday’s swim and diving meet with Duke and Minnesota at the Morcom Aquatics Center has been cancelled because of travel complications from Hurricane Matthew.

The FSU men’s and women’s cross country teams each won the FSU Invitational on Friday morning.
