The Daily Nole — Sept. 23, 2016: FSU’s Josh Sweat Out Saturday

One day now separates us from Florida State’s contest at South Florida, but three other FSU teams are in action Friday and another one was on Thursday night. Keep it here as we keep you posted on all things FSU. The news and notes section will be updated as the day goes on.

Lead Story

After playing sparingly last week against Louisville, sophomore defensive end Josh Sweat will miss Saturday’s contest against South Florida. Sweat suffered a knee injury in practice last week and will have surgery to repair an injury to his meniscus. The surgery isn’t expected to sideline Sweat for more than two weeks.

Sweat worked his way into a starting lineup as a freshman last season, but was expected to make significant strides as a sophomore. Despite bulking up to 250 pounds in the offseason, Sweat has recorded just three tackles through three games this season.

Between the Lines

Florida State soccer scored three second half goals on Thursday night to down Wake Forest 3-0 and improve to 7-1 on the season with each victory coming by way of shutout.

Megan Connolly, Dallas Dorosy and Kristen McFarland all found the net for the Seminoles. Kirsten Crowley had two of the four FSU assists. Goalkeeper Cassie Miller finished with three saves in the win.

On the Agenda

The FSU men’s tennis team will be in action at the Bedford Cup in Tampa. The women’s team will be in Greenville, South Carolina for the Furman Fall Classic. The Florida State volleyball team will play host to rival Miami. That match begins at 7 p.m. EST and will air on ACC Network Extra.

News and Notes

Florida State returned about 3,800 tickets of its allotment of 10,000 for Saturday’s game at South Florida, according to reports.

Freshman wide receiver Keith Gavin, who was supposed to start seeing more reps, is questionable for Saturday against South Florida with a toe injury.
