Florida State strength and conditioning coach Vic Viloria will serve a 30-day suspension without pay beginning Friday, following a DUI arrest last weekend.

Viloria’s suspension will run through the Seminoles’ Oct. 1 contest against North Carolina — FSU’s fifth game of the regular season. Viloria was arrested last Saturday morning, according to reports, on charges of driving under the influence and property damage.

Viloria told police that he had been consuming “big” alcoholic beverages in his office on the FSU campus, but decided it was inappropriate to drink there and moved to the Showtime trailer. The premium cable channel is spotlighting the Seminoles for its “A Season With” program. Viloria said he was given a bottle of whiskey by the Showtime staff, according to reports.

“I have suspended Coach Viloria for more than a third of the football season to send a strong message about the very serious nature of his offense,” FSU president John Thrasher said in a statement. “We have an outstanding athletics program, and fans must know it operates with class and reflects the university’s values. We are continuing to work with Showtime on their fall series showcasing our talented team, and they have been responsive to our concerns.”

Viloria, 37, has been with the program since Jimbo Fisher’s first year as head coach in 2010. The Seminoles open the 2016 season Monday against Ole Miss at Camping World Stadium in Orlando.
