According to head coach Jimbo Fisher on his weekly call-in show, Florida State defensive lineman Keith Bryant will undergo foot surgery and miss the entire 2016 season.

Once a 4-star recruit at defensive tackle, Bryant had recorded just four total tackles during his first three seasons in Tallahassee. A 6-2, 274-pound redshirt junior, Bryant was listed as the No. 2 defensive end behind last season’s sack leader, DeMarcus Walker, and was expected to see many more snaps in 2016.

What it means: Though Bryant hadn’t been the most productive defensive lineman during his time at Florida State, he was expected to provide some much-needed depth along the defensive front. Listed behind Bryant on the depth chart is true freshman Janarius Robinson. Whoever is tasked with spelling Walker will have virtually no experience at the collegiate level. Along with Robinson, freshman Brian Burns is also listed as a defensive end, but Burns is better suited to play the “Buck” position which is an end/hybrid role currently occupied by sophomore Josh Sweat. Other options will include converted tight end Jalen Wilkerson, redshirt sophomore Adam Torres or moving Wally Aime over from tackle.
