FSU Suspends Freshman QB Malik Henry

According to reports, Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher announced the suspension of freshman quarterback Malik Henry following Saturday’s practice for what is simply being characterized as a “violation of team rules”.

The length of Henry’s suspension is not known at this point, but Henry has been criticized in the past for having maturity issues. Henry played at multiple high schools and left IMG Academy in Bradenton without ever taking a snap after alleged issues arose with the new coaching staff. Henry at one point was a 5-star prospect, but came to FSU as the 47th overall player, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, and with four stars.

What it means: With Henry suspended and redshirt senior Sean Maguire coming off foot surgery, the Seminoles currently have just two scholarship quarterbacks available in starter Deondre Francois, a redshirt freshman, and J.J. Consentino, a redshirt sophomore who has struggled to make significant strides despite arriving in Tallahassee as a 4-star prospect. Jake Rizzo, a walk-on transfer from UCF, is probably the third option at this point. Losing Francois for any reason simply can’t be an option for FSU as of right now.
