Florida State lost a legacy linebacker commitment early this summer when Bradley Jennings Jr., son of former FSU linebacker Bradley Jennings, decided to take his talents elsewhere. On Thursday night, the Seminoles added a different linebacker legacy.

DeCalon Brooks, the son of the former FSU All-American and Pro Football Hall of Fame linebacker Derrick Brooks, pledged his services to Florida State on Thursday night. Brooks is a 3-star prospect from Gaither High School in Tampa and the 51st-ranked inside linebacker for 2017, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

What it means: The addition of Brooks gives the Seminoles another body at a position they need to address. Brooks joins DeMarco Artis, who committed on Aug. 2 as linebackers currently committed for 2017. FSU entered the day with the No. 9 overall class for 2017, according to the Composite rankings, but with the commitment of Brooks, FSU overtakes Miami at No. 8 and now has the top class in the ACC. Brooks is the class’ 13th commitment.
