The number that Florida State hopes to be part of this upcoming basketball season is 68. That’s how many teams get into the NCAA Tournament. To do it, FSU will likely need significant contributions from newcomers.

On Thursday, those newcomers were given jersey numbers.

Florida State’s most decorated incoming freshman, Jonathan Isaac, will wear No. 1. Isaac was a 5-star prospect out of high school and is expected by some to have the greatest freshman year in school-history despite Dwayne Bacon leading the team in scoring in rebounding and Malik Beasley jumping straight to the NBA after stellar freshman years last season. Devon Bookert, who graduated, wore the number for FSU last season.

Freshman guards C.J. Walker and Trenton Forrest are also expected to make a significant impact. Walker, a point guard, will wear No. 2 while Forrest, a potential big-time scorer, will wear No. 20.

Jersey No. 5 left behind by Michael Beasley, who was selected in the first round of the NBA Draft by the Denver Nuggets, will be worn by Patrick Savoy Jr., a junior college transfer. Forward Jarquez Smith previously wore No. 5 before switching to 23 last season.

Braian Angola-Rodas, also a junior college transfer, will wear No. 20 for the Seminoles this season. Mfiondu Kabengele, a freshman small forward and the nephew of NBA Hall of Fame center Dikembe Mutombo, will don No. 25. That number was last worn by Aaron Thomas who led the team in scoring during the 2013-14 season.
