FSU Ranked No. 9 in AP’s Top 100 Poll of Last 80 Years

The Associated Press’ long-awaited top 100 programs of the last 80 years poll was released on Tuesday and perhaps to the surprise of some, Florida State was ranked in the top 10. The first AP Poll was released in 1936.

The Seminoles claimed the No. 9 spot behind Texas and ahead of Florida. FSU has three national championships and has won the ACC 15 times in 24 seasons in the conference.

The poll points out the from November 1990 until early in the 2001 season, FSU was never ranked lower than 11th. The Seminoles finished in the AP top 5 every year from 1987-2000.

Ohio State topped the poll, followed by Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Alabama and USC. Nebraska was sixth, followed by Michigan at No. 7.

Other notables in the poll include Miami, who came at No. 13 and Clemson, which came in at No. 22. South Florida ranked 94th on the list. The poll includes a number of Ivy League schools and others like Iowa Pre-Flight which hasn’t had a program since 1944.
