FSU Extends Athletic Director Through 2020 athletics

Earlier this week, it was reported by the Tallahassee Democrat that Florida State athletic director Stan Wilcox wanted to hang on to head football coach Jimbo Fisher for as long as he could. It appears that FSU is interested in keeping Wilcox around longer as well.

Wilcox and the university agreed to an extension through the 2019-20 academic year on Thursday, according to reports. Wilcox became Florida State’s athletic director in the summer of 2013 after spending time at fellow ACC schools, Duke and Notre Dame.

Wilcox had been earning $510,000 annually, but the figures involved with the new deal are not yet known, according to reports. Wilcox’s contract had been for five years through 2018.

Under Wilcox’s watch, the Seminoles have captured national championships in both football and soccer. Wilcox’s tenure also features two ACC football titles, an ACC baseball championship and two softball appearances in the Women’s College World Series. The FSU women’s basketball team has also advanced past the first weekend in the NCAA Tournament in each of the last two seasons.

Big things will be expected of the FSU athletic programs this upcoming academic year as the football, soccer, softball and baseball programs all look to have the talent necessary to make a run at a national championship.
