FSU Baseball Season in Review: Kudos to Our Staff

FSU athletics

Hello Friends,

I don’t do this very often, but my name is Mike Ferguson and I’m the editor of The Daily Nole. When we launched in January, I knew it would take some time to build our name and our brand, but we’re off to a great start.

As most of you are well aware, Florida State’s 2016 baseball season came to an end on Monday night with a 7-0 loss to No. 1 national seed Florida in the decisive game of the Gainesville Regional. While it wasn’t the way most of us had hoped the season would end for FSU, the Seminoles still managed to run their streak of consecutive seasons with at least 40 wins to 39 and were within one win of the College World Series with a very young team. It was also the end of a productive season for our very young team here at The Daily Nole.

Our first set of press credentials for our young site were to cover FSU baseball. While I’m covering the athletic programs from afar for the time being, staff writer Clint Eiland did a great job covering the team from the press box.

Clint has worked with me for more than a year, dating back to when we covered FSU athletics for Noled Out — an FSU site that was part of the now defunct Bloguin network. To ease some of Clint’s burden, we were able to make a big midseason pick-up in the form of contributor Robert Blackburn.

Both Clint and Robert are students in Tallahassee and each did a great job balancing their time between class and work at The Daily Nole. Thanks largely to Clint and Robert’s efforts this past season, we were able to recap each of the Seminoles’ 63 games and provide excellent midweek analysis and reporting unique to our site.

While we all would have liked to have seen Florida State play games in Omaha, it was a great first baseball season for our young team and young site.

For our team at TDN, we believe this is just the beginning of a long, successful journey that will include press coverage for many different FSU sports. Since launching less than six months ago, we’ve seen our audience and interest grow exponentially and we expect that trend to continue.

As is the case with Florida State’s young roster, we believe that there is plenty of success ahead. I wanted to use this platform to thank our young staff for what they’ve been willing and able to do for our site so far and to thank the rest of you for your support and continuing to check out our page.

Feel free to email me at Mike@TheDailyNole.com with any thoughts, concerns or ideas that you may have. Again, thanks for continuing to roam our site and we will remain dedicated to providing the best across-the-board FSU coverage in the coming months and hopefully, years.

Sincerely,
Mike Ferguson
Editor of The Daily Nole
