FSU Stock Report (June 7, 2016)

Track and field and baseball are the only two sports remaining for Florida State before the start of the fall sports, which obviously means football. Looking back on the last few days, here who is rising and who is falling around Nole Nation:

Stock Up

FSU softball: Florida State’s softball season might have ended on Sunday night with a heartbreaking 8-7 loss to Auburn in the Women’s College World Series, but the Seminoles more than proved that they belonged on their way to and in Oklahoma City. After winning the ACC regular season and tournament championships, FSU swept through the regional and super regional round before going 2-2 at the Women’s College World Series. In Oklahoma City, the Seminoles eliminated 11-time national champion UCLA and No. 2 national seed and last year’s runner-up Michigan. Florida State loses only three seniors and returns seven All-ACC performers, including three All-Americans.

FSU baseball’s offense: Florida State advanced to the Gainesville Super Regional by sweeping the Tallahassee Regional. During the regional, FSU outscored Alabama State, Southern Mississippi and South Alabama by a combined 43-14 score. The Seminoles pounded out 46 hits over the three games and eight home runs, including two each from Dylan Busby and Jackson Lueck. Busby was named the regional’s Most Outstanding Player, but seven other Seminoles were named to the all-regional team.

Stock Down

FSU softball fielding: Yep, it’s on the list again. If there is an area Florida State will look back on following its Women’s College World Series run and say “what if”, it’s in the field. In FSU’s two WCWS losses to Georgia and Auburn, the Seminoles committed a total of 10 errors, including a WCWS record-tying seven against Georgia. In Sunday’s loss to Auburn, it was a 2-base error by Alex Kossoff in left field that allowed the winning run to get to third base with no one out in the eighth inning.

Worth Noting

  • Florida State will begin the NCAA outdoor track and field championships on Wednesday in Eugene, Oregon.
  • Florida State shortstop Taylor Walls was named an All-American by Baseball America on Tuesday, becoming just the third FSU shortstop to be named a first-team All-American.
  • The first two games of the best-of-three Gainesville Super Regional between FSU and Florida will begin at 6 p.m. EST and will be shown on ESPN2. The first game is Saturday and the second is on Sunday. If the teams split those games, a decisive game will held Monday at either 1 p.m., 4 p.m. or 7 p.m. EST.
