Florida State shortstop Cali Harrod drove in four runs and made one terrific play in the field to lead the Seminoles to a 6-2 win over Utah in the first game of a best-of-three NCAA Super Regional on Friday.

Sydney Broderick put FSU on the board in the fourth inning with a sacrifice fly to score Jessica Warren. Warren started the rally with a single and advanced to third on a double by ACC Player of the Year, Alex Powers. Powers scored to make it 2-0 on an infield single by Harrod.

Utah got on the board in the sixth inning with a solo home run by Kay Kay Fronda. The Utes put the tying run in scoring position before Harrod robbed Utah’s Kristen Stewart with a leaping snow cone catch.

FSU was able to put the game away in the bottom half of the inning. After Powers doubled home Warren, Harrod delivered the big blow with a 3-run home run to left.

Jessica Burroughs picked up the win for FSU, throwing 6 2/3 innings, allowing two runs and striking out seven. The Utes loaded the bases in the seventh to chase Burroughs but Meghan King came in and got the final out after giving up an RBI single.

The Seminoles will have two chances to win one game against Utah on Saturday. The winner of the Super Regional will face Georgia in the Women’s College World Series. Georgia used a walk-off 2-run homer to eliminate 2-time defending national champion Florida on Friday.
