Florida State will face Miami for a spot in the ACC Championship on Saturday, thanks to a 6-1 win over Georgia Tech on Thursday — the Seminoles’ seventh straight in the ACC Tournament.

Florida State starter Cole Sands was stellar in his five innings of work. Sands allowed just one run on three hits and a walk to earn the win. For a second straight day, the FSU bullpen worked four scoreless innings. With the victory, FSU improved to 2-0 in Pool A. Georgia Tech and North Carolina State, whom the Seminoles defeated Wednesday, were both eliminated from championship contention.

The Good: It was a solid offensive showing both at the plate and on the mound for Florida State. The Seminoles pounded out 10 hits, including four that went for extra bases.

The Bad: Base-running blunders continue to haunt Florida State, but this time, it looked like FSU got a raw deal. Jackson Lueck was thrown out on a ground ball to third base in the fifth inning, but replay showed Lueck’s leg beat the tag by a decent amount of time.

The Ugly: Georgia Tech’s offense was largely inept for most of the day. The Yellow Jackets scored their only run in the first inning. Each of Georgia Tech’s six hits were singles. Georgia Tech didn’t have a single baserunner reach scoring position after the third inning.

Studs of the Game: Third baseman John Sansone and first baseman Dylan Busby each hit 2-run home runs for Florida State. Sansone’s blast came in the third while Busby’s came in the seventh. Sansone had two hits and two runs on the day. Jackson Lueck was 3-for-3 for FSU with a double, two runs and a walk. Sands of course, was awesome on the mound. Kel Johnson was 1-for-3 for Georgia Tech and drove in the only Yellow Jacket run.

Duds of the Game: Tristin English was 0-for-4 in the loss for Georgia Tech. Matt Henderson and Donovan Petrey were each 0-for-3 for the Seminoles.
