Florida State now sits two wins away from a second trip to the Women’s College World Series in three years. The only thing standing in FSU’s way: Utah.

The Seminoles advanced to the Tallahassee Super Regional behind superb pitching during the Tallahassee Regional. In three games, Florida State held its opponents to one total run. After opening with back-to-back shutouts over Florida A&M and South Carolina, FSU clinched the regional with a second win over the Gamecocks by a 2-1 final.

ACC Pitcher of the Year, Jessica Burroughs opened the regional by pitching a no-hitter in a 1-0 over Florida A&M. Freshman Meghan King allowed just one run in the final game of the regional. That dynamic pitching duo for the season is a combined 50-8 with an ERA just above two.

Third baseman Jessica Warren paced the FSU offense during the regional, going 4-for-8 with three runs scored and two RBIs. ACC Player of Year, Alex Powers plated two runs for the Seminoles during the regional. FSU enters the Super Regional with a 51-8 overall record this season.

Utah comes in with a 36-20 overall record. The Utes advanced by beating host Kentucky 5-3 in a winner-take-all game of the Lexington Regional.

Junior shortstop Anissa Urtez drove in five of the nine Utah runs during the regional. Urtez is hitting .388 for the year and led the Utes with 46 RBIs. Hannah Flippen leads Utah with a .422 average and 13 home runs.

Sophomore Katie Donovan has been the Utes’ go-to girl in the circle this year. Donovan is 20-10 with a 2.31 ERA. She picked up two wins and one save for the Utes in the Lexington Regional. Utah will be aiming for its first appearance in the Women’s College World Series since 1994.

The best-of-three Super Regional gets underway at 5 p.m. EST on Friday and will be televised on ESPNU. Saturday’s contest will begin at 4:30 p.m. and be shown on ESPN2. If the teams split the first two meetings, the decisive third game will be held at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Saturday night.
