On a day where the Florida State offense was non-existent, starting pitcher Jessica Burroughs had arguably the best performance of her career in a 1-0 win over Florida A&M in the opening round of the Tallahassee Regional.

Burroughs struck out a career-high 14 batters in the victory. The only baserunners for the Rattlers came on consecutive walks in the sixth inning. After Burroughs induced a flyout for the second out of the inning, the rain came, halting the contest for more than two and a half hours.

Burroughs worked out of the jam following the lengthy delay by getting a strikeout. Florida A&M’s Kenya Pereira was almost as impressive on the mound as she allowed just one FSU hit.

The game’s only run came in the first inning. FSU’s Morgan Klaevemann scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Jessica Warren. Warren also recorded Florida State’s only hit.

The Seminoles move on to the winner’s bracket and will face South Carolina at noon EST on Saturday. The Gamecocks defeated South Florida 2-0 in the first game of the regional. Florida A&M and South Florida will square off in an elimination game.
