Jamel Cook Flips From FSU to USC

Why did he de-commit? – Cook was a longtime safety commit out of Miami Central, where many people think FSU has a stronghold. USC came on very strong at the end and got Cook to take his last official visit there. Tomahawk Nation reported that USC pitched him playing time as a wide receiver, which Florida State was unwilling to do.

Ultimately Cook seems like he wanted to pursue a different path than what Florida State (and some other schools) had suggested. USC seemingly offered him that opportunity and he took it.

How much does it hurt FSU? – Not for the immediate future. While some might get worried that Florida State struck out on two safeties this year (Clifford Chattman being the other one) it was very unlikely that either would get playing time. Derwin James still has two more years to go, and many think that the 2017 recruiting class will be where the Seminoles pick up someone for that position.
