Voter fraud probe rocks Georgia Senate race

A group helmed by a major donor and policy adviser to Democratic Senate candidate Michele Nunn is under investigation by the Georgia secretary of State for alleged voter fraud.

Secretary of State Brian Kemp (R) said in a memo, reported by WSB-TV, that his office has “received numerous complaints about voter applications submitted by the New Georgia Project,” an organization launched to register and turn out voters to the polls.

“Preliminary investigation has revealed significant illegal activities, including forged voter registration applications, forged signatures on releases, and applications with false or inaccurate information,” Kemp wrote in the memo.
Nunn is running against Republican David Perdue for a Senate seat left open by the retirement of Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.). Democrats see the race as a pick-up opportunity in a year where they are largely playing defense.

Most polls have shown a close race, with Perdue leading Nunn by three points in the most recent survey, conducted earlier this month.

Republicans are seizing on the allegations against the New Georgia Project to tarnish Nunn, suggesting the group was part of a larger effort by Democrats to “expand the electorate by any means necessary.”

“The serious allegations of illegal activities and potential fraud from liberal voter registration groups are outrageous and should be investigated to the fullest extent of the law,” said Perdue spokeswoman Megan Whittemore.

The New Georgia Project and its parent organization, Third Sector Development, were issued subpoenas this week demanding documents relating to the allegations be turned over to the Georgia Election Board by Sept. 19.

Third Sector Development is run by Georgia House Minority Leader Stacey Abrams (D), who has contributed to Nunn’s campaign and was listed on an official campaign strategy document as a proposed member of a group of potential policy advisers.

Abrams said in a statement she was “saddened” by the subpoenas, and that the group is working to comply with them.

Georgia has a few more years before the demographics turn it blue. Very similar to North Carolina actually.

So don't worry Trad - the GOP might pull this one out - but the state will be blue like next week.

Yeah, especially when they apparently have a bunch of phantom blue voters registering themselves to vote.

Trad - the polling shows how close the race is. You know this.

There is no voting fraud in Georgia or anywhere else. It's made up to light a fire under conservatives. It is typical fear mongering.

If Nunn wins it's going to be awesome to see all the crying by southern conservatives that they have lost the game and that there is hardly anywhere left in America to live free.

Hoe about y'all move to Texas and secede - cause pretty soon that's the only option you will have left.

What a dumbass,... Stay your ass out of Southern Politics.... you get OWNED everytime.

All states will be Red, Within 15 years or less....so it really doesn't matter.

Actually the Georgia race sucks. Two contestants from the Political Class. Michelle Nunn is the daughter of longtime Georgia Senator Sam Nunn (there's a federal building named after him in Atlanta), while David Purdue is the first cousin of former-Governor Sonny Purdue.

I never cared, left or right, what family candidates come from. I want to know their positions on the issues and their history of telling the truth and sticking by their positions.

I'm tired of seeing the same names over and over again. If it's Jeb Bush vs. Hillary Clinton in '16, I might just say "screw it" and move to Costa Rica.

Call me crazy but I really think the GOP conservatives break through in 2016 and get Cruz or Paul the nomination.

And it would be healthy for conservatives to finally get their day and their candidate. I hope they pull it off.
