Fast food workers on strike again....

KANSAS CITY, Mo.— Fast food workers are expected to walk off the job in an estimated 150 cities on Thursday, with employees in many locations planning nonviolent civil disobedience.

Organizers say the strike—with potentially widespread arrests of workers—marks an intensification of a two-year campaign to raise hourly pay in the industry to $15 and to win workers’ right to form a union. On Thursday morning, organizers said dozens of workers had been arrested in Detroit and New York's Times Square.

In Kansas City, Missouri, workers are expected to walk out of 60 restaurants. Latoya Caldwell, a Wendy’s worker, is one of dozens of fast food employees in Kansas City who plan to sit down in a city intersection, lock arms and get arrested.

“We’re a movement now,” Caldwell said on Wednesday before starting a shift at Wendy’s. She and several co-workers said that 25 of the more than 30 non-management employees in their restaurant have pledged to strike. “We know this is going to be a long fight, but we’re going to fight it till we win,” said Caldwell, 31, who is raising four children alone on $7.50 an hour and was living in a homeless shelter until earlier this year.

The strikers cite frustration about their continued struggle to survive at the bottom of the labor market even as the broader economic news seems positive. “They say the economy is getting better, but we’re still making $7.50,” said Caldwell. “Nobody should work 40 hours a week and find themselves homeless, without enough money to buy them and their kids food, needing public assistance.”

Latoya has it all backwards. No one should have kids if all they can get is a minimum wage job.

I try not to eat FastFood so I am ok with this, I am also ok if the owners just fire the people on strike.

They're threatening to close down intersections. Cars should fail to stop for these morons.

"Sorry.... just couldn't stop in time. What was the sign-weilding idiot doing standing in the road, anyway?"

Someone should explain to these people the concept of leverage.
When you perform a job function that requires no special skills and can be taught to another in a few days then you are replaceable and your value is at the low end of the wage scale. This is why these jobs were always typically performed by younger people in school where they used it as a springboard.
For the left the cause is always more important than the people who suffer for it.

The bigger fool than the fellow who knows it all is the one who'll argue with him.

    Easily replaceable. Fire them all

Yeah, except liberals eat fast food. Millions of them.

The franchise owners know firing the workers will result in a big hit to their bottom line.

Firing someone for unionization activities is illegal.

That too. But even if it weren't the franchise owners wouldn't do it. Most of those employees and the customers are socialists.

It's a quick way to kill a franchise.

Waddling for Justice - Workers have arrived at McDonalds in south side Chicago & StrikeFastFood is underway!

Think fast food workers should be paid $15 per hour? Then start your own taco stand and pay them any wage you wish.

Why don't socialists who frequent fast food places increase fast food workers wages by tipping?
Is it because it would affect their bottom line?

Because most of the socialists that patronize fast food establishments count pennies to eat.

But of course you could care less.

Perhaps they should not be spending their hard earned money on printed T shirts. Oh wait, nevermind, their backers are paying for these. Last time it happened, the actual fast food workers at a local Wendy's were telling me that they wished the protesters would go away, since half the staff was sent home that day because of the intimidation of customers had stopped people from coming in. I remember walking out and smiling and waving at the protesters, I'm guessing zero of which actually worked for fast food restaurants. Acorn 2.0.

When a Big Mac Cost $12 Dollars, fast food places will go out of business,...cause SOCIALIST will stop buying their food there.

Please keep cutting off your noses to spite your face...

Do you tip fast food workers?

And if you're counting pennies to eat do you think fast food is the best way to spend your money?

I don't east fast food - but I would tip something if I did - depending on the service.

Fast food may not be the best way to spend money on food - but it can be the cheapest option for people.

So you'd decide based on value provided to you, as determined by you, instead of by virtue of their needs?
Uncle Karl will be pissed to hear this...

Fast food can be convenient, but it isn't the cheapest option anywhere.

If you think someone isn't paid enough you should explore how to increase their productivity, not lobby for regulations that outlaw jobs.

You are out of your everloving mind. People who eat at fast food places eat there for a reason - it's cheap.
