The Daily Nole Poll: Softball Rules FSU Women’s Sports

In our latest poll, we asked our Twitter followers which Florida State women’s sport that fans enjoyed following the most.

Timing may have played a big part in the return of our results, being that softball just won the ACC Tournament in dramatic fashion and that FSU beach volleyball just played for the national championship. Seasons for other spots like soccer and women’s basketball have long been done with.

When all was said and done however, softball topped the list with 47 percent of the vote.

Beach volleyball finished a distant second in the poll with 29 percent of the vote. Beach volleyball and softball are arguably the two sports where the Seminoles have had the most success in recent although FSU’s 2014 soccer title serves as the most recent national championship for the athletic department.

FSU softball has won the ACC Tournament in each of the last five years and has become a perennial top-10 team. Since beach volleyball became an NCAA-recognized sport, FSU has played in two of the three national championship duals.

Soccer garnered 16 percent of the vote and perhaps most surprising, is that women’s basketball finished last with 8 percent. The Seminoles have become a force on the women’s hardwood and basketball is a more popular sport nationally, but the appeal from FSU fans isn’t reflected in the poll.

We’ll post another poll in the coming days.
