Monday’s always seem better after a Florida State victory the day before. Keep it here for the latest and greatest in FSU athletics. We’ll update the news and notes section of this post throughout the day.

Lead Story

Florida State softball eagerly awaited the NCAA Tournament selection show on Sunday night. A fifth straight ACC championship victory seems to have paid off, as the Seminoles (47-10) were selected to fill the No. 6 national seed and an opening game against the Jacksonville State Gamecocks (33-23).

Many had already pegged the Seminoles as a lock for a regional host, but few had them as one of the first eight seeds. Florida State finished the regular season as a consensus top 10 team, according to multiple publications.

The Tallahassee Regional will feature the aforementioned two teams along with the Auburn Tigers (40-15) and the Kennesaw State Owls (39-15). Games will start on May 18 and go through May 20. The format is double elimination.

Between the Lines

Florida State baseball was able to sweep the Mount St. Mary’s Mountaineers with a crushing 22-0 victory on Sunday afternoon. The next series is the regular season finale against the NC State Wolfpack. A regional hosting bid is likely on the line.

On the Agenda

Florida State men’s golf travels to Norman, Oklahoma for the NCAA Regionals. The competition will go through Wednesday. Fans can follow the action on Golfstat.com.

News and Notes

Will Zirzow made his debut for the Seminoles late in the game against the Mountaineers. He’s been recovering from injury for almost the entire season, but may see time on the mound in the postseason.

FSU baseball moved up to No. 14 in the Baseball America Poll. FSU is also 11th in the D1Baseball Poll and 22nd, according to Collegiate Baseball.

Former FSU defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi had good things to say about coach Odell Haggins. Nnadi claims “Honestly, a lot of the stuff I hear from (NFL) coaches is the same stuff that Coach Odell has been telling me,” Nnadi said. “Techniques, keys, things like that.”
