Florida State softball notched a fifth straight ACC championship on Saturday in dramatic fashion. With the Seminoles down to their last out, Anna Shelnutt blasted a 3-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to lift No. 1 seed FSU past Pittsburgh, 5-4.
The blast certainly helped Shelnutt earn a spot on the All-ACC Tournament team, but the honors for a second year in a row belonged a freshman. Second baseman Sydney Sherrill was named the MVP of the conference tournament after going 7-for-10 with three runs and three RBIs over the three games.
Also getting recognition for their tournament performances for the Seminoles was pitcher Meghan King. King earned two wins during the Atlanta tournament. Outfielder Dani Morgan took home MVP honors last season.
Between the Lines
In addition to FSU softball, FSU baseball swept a doubleheader on Saturday, beating Mount St. Mary’s 10-0 in the first game and 8-2 in the nightcap. FSU women’s tennis upset rival Florida in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, 4-3.
FSU men’s tennis was upset by Alabama in the second round of the tournament, 4-2. FSU men’s track and field claimed the ACC Outdoor Championship title on Saturday. The FSU women finished third.

FSU baseball will wrap up a 4-game series with Mount St. Mary’s on Sunday at noon EST on ACC Network Extra.

Pitcher Cole Sands will start for FSU on Sunday against Mount St. Mary’s.
The NCAA Softball Selection Show begins at 10 p.m. EST on ESPN2.
FSU baseball completed a 4-game sweep of Mount St. Mary’s on Sunday with a 22-0 win.
