Florida State’s (28-12, 10-9 ACC) offense was too much for Boston College (13-25, 5-15 ACC) as they downed the Eagles 13-7 at Fenway Park.
Over 5,000 fans were in attendance for Boston College’s annual Pete Frates ALS Awareness game. With the series win already clinched, FSU will now look to sweep the Eagles on Sunday when it sends Andrew Karp (6-3) to the mound <a href="https://rusbank.net/company/oneclickmoney_ru/"oneclickmoney.
The Good: The Florida State offense was on fire Saturday. The Seminoles hit .325 as a team (13-for-40), and .556 (5-for-9) leading off the inning. Eight different Noles can now say they scored a run in one of the most historic venues in professional sports; Steven Wells led the way for FSU, scoring four times on the day. Along with the eight Seminoles that scored a run against Boston College, eight Noles can also say they drove in a run at the plate. Cobi Johnson drove in three runs on the day, two of which came from a triple in the sixth inning.
The Bad: The Florida State pitching staff has been giving up runs by the handfuls the past few games, and that trend continued in game two of the 3-game series against Boston College. The Eagles scored seven runs, six of which were earned on the Seminoles. Starter C.J. Van Eyk threw 66-pitches in two innings of work. Van Eyk allowed four earned runs on four hits. He also walked five batters. Tyle Ahearn was credited with the win, and Cobi Johnson picked up the save. The two combined to allow two earned runs on four hits.
The Ugly: If the FSU pitching staff was bad, well, at least it was not Boston College bad. The Eagles’ staff allowed 13 runs on 13 hits. They walked 11 batters and also hit two Seminoles. The Seminoles tagged the BC pitching staff for five extra-base hits.
Studs of the Game: Steven Wells has been on a tear at the plate as of late, which continued on Saturday, but Cobi Johnson finished just behind Wells for the Stud of the Game. Wells tied his career high in hits with a 4-for-5 performance at the plate; he also scored four times and drove in one run. Wells is now 13-for-14 with five walks in his past four games.
Duds of the Game: Dan Metzdorf saw his record fall to 0-6 on the mound this season for the Eagles. The starter allowed seven runs to score on five hits in four innings of work. Metzdorf walked seven batters and allowed three extra-base hits. He faced 25 batters and threw 100 pitches, 51 of which were strikes.
Extra Innings: Mike Martin is now just four wins shy of becoming the winningest coach in college baseball history. FSU will play the next two games on the road before returning to Dick Howser Stadium for a 3-game series against Miami; the same team “11†picked up his first win against.
