The Daily Nole — April 13, 2018: Thomas, Wright Selected in WNBA Draft

Lead Story

A couple of former Florida State women’s hoops players are heading west. Both Shakayla Thomas and guard Imani Wright were selected during Thursday night’s WNBA Draft.

Thomas was taken in the second round and 23rd overall by the Los Angeles Sparks, who have reached the WNBA Finals in consecutive seasons. Thomas averaged a team-high 17.8 points as a senior while shooting 52 percent and grabbing nearly seven rebounds.

Wright was a third round selection of the Phoenix Mercury, going 26th overall. Wright set an FSU record with 103 makes from beyond the 3-point arc this past season while averaging 16.3 points per contest.

Between the Lines

FSU men’s tennis defeated Boston College on Thursday, 6-1.

On the Agenda

FSU women’s tennis will host Virginia Tech and Florida A&M on Friday. FSU track and field will take part in the Tiger Track Classic at Auburn and the Tom Jones Memorial in Gainesville. FSU softball will be at Boston College. FSU baseball plays host to Duke in a contest that begins at 6 p.m. EST on ACC Network Extra.

Finalized spring game rosters were unveiled on Thursday.

FSU baseball fell to Duke on Friday night at Dick Howser Stadium, 7-1.
