On St. Patrick’s Day, the luck of the Irish wasn’t in the air for Notre Dame at Dick Howser Stadium. Florida State snapped a 4-game losing streak on Saturday by holding off the Fighting Irish, 6-4.

With the win, FSU improves to 15-4 on the season and 2-3 in ACC play. The two schools will play the rubber game of the series on Sunday.

The Good: After a couple of rough starts from Andrew Karp and Cole Sands, Drew Parrish brought stability back to the FSU pitching staff. Parrish allowed three runs on just four hits in 7 1/3 innings to earn the victory to improve to 2-0. The FSU bats continued to produce with the long ball as both Nick Derr and Reese Albert left the yard.

The Bad: The Florida State bullpen wasn’t real sharp on Saturday afternoon, but ultimately got the job done. Jonah Scolaro and Conor Grady both struggled before Clayton Kwiatkowski induced a double play on his second pitch to end the game.

The Ugly: A misplay in the outfield by FSU allowed Notre Dame’s Cole Daily to hit an inside-the-park home run in the fourth inning to break up the shutout.

Studs of the Game: Parrish deserves credit for eating innings for FSU. Cal Raleigh and Nick Derr, who homered for a second straight day, each drove in two runs. Reese Albert had a pinch-hit solo shot for his first career home run. Daily’s inside-the-park homer was of the solo variety, but he did drive in two of the four Notre Dame runs. Matt Vierling homered for a second straight day for the Fighting Irish. Alex Kerschner, who was 2-for-4 for Notre Dame, was the only player with multiple hits.

Duds of the Game: Steven Wells, Jr. was 0-for-4 at the plate for the Seminoles, but did have a nice throw to gun a runner at the plate. Notre Dame reliever Anthony Holubecki allowed four runs in 3 1/3 innings to take the loss.
