Florida State remained perfect in its first road test of the season on Tuesday night as the Seminoles knocked off Jacksonville, 4-0.

Andrew Karp was once again stellar on the mound and FSU found enough offense to improve to 8-0 on the season. FSU returns home for a 3-game series with UNC-Asheville, beginning on Friday.

The Good: Florida State pitching continued to be stellar, headlined by Andrew Karp’s start. Karp went six shutout innings, allowing four hits and no walks while striking out a career-high 12. Jonah Scolaro faced the minimum and struck out four to pick up the 3-inning save. FSU didn’t commit an error in the field.

The Bad: FSU managed just four runs, but had ample opportunity to break the game wide open. The Seminoles left 10 men on base compared to Jacksonville’s three. For the Dolphins, putting the bat on the ball was an issue as 16 of the 27 recorded outs for Jacksonville came by way of the strikeout.

The Ugly: It wasn’t the best baserunning night for Florida State and that became readily apparent in the fourth inning. Two runners singled for FSU in the frame, but both were picked off.

Studs of the Game: Andrew Karp and Jonah Scolaro each get the nod for the Seminoles for their combined shutout. Rafael Bournigal and Steven Wells were each 2-for-2 at the plate. Bournigal scored twice while Wells drove in one. Ruben Someillan had two of the four hits for Jacksonville.

Duds of the Game: Jacksonville’s Sam Armstrong and Evan Fernandez had rough nights at the plate, going a combined 0-for-7 with six strikeouts. Jackson Lueck, Drew Mendoza and Cal Raleigh were a combined 0-for-12 for the Seminoles. Lueck and Mendoza each struck out three times.
