The Daily Nole — Feb. 22, 2018: Pollock to Replace Holton in Rotation

Lead Story

Florida State ace pitcher Tyler Holton is out for the season with a torn ligament in his elbow, forcing the Seminoles to turn to a freshman to fill his spot in the rotation.

Austin Pollock, a lefty from Tallahassee, will join Cole Sands and Drew Parrish in the rotation for this weekend’s series against Troy. Pollock will start Sunday’s series finale at Dick Howser Stadium.

Pollock’s only appearance this season was a 4-out save in a 7-2 win over Xavier last Saturday. Pollock allowed just three hits while striking out five in the four shutout innings.

Between the Lines

FSU swimming and diving began the ACC Championships on Wednesday. FSU softball split a pair of contests with South Alabama, dropping the first, 3-1, but winning the second, 14-1.

On the Agenda

FSU swimming and diving will continue the ACC Championships on Thursday. FSU women’s hoops will host Boston College at 7 p.m. EST on ACC Network Extra. FSU track and field will begin the ACC Indoor Championships.

News and Notes

FSU softball’s Jessie Warren set the FSU career RBI record and the ACC home run record during Wednesday’s doubleheader against South Alabama.

Brandon Howlett, a top 100 player according to Baseball America, has signed with FSU.

FSU’s April 14 baseball contest with Duke is sold out.

FSU men’s tennis is up to 12th in this week’s USTA Poll.

FSU track and field’s Austin Droogsma was named ACC Field Performer of the Week.
