The Daily Nole — Feb. 21, 2018: Holton Expected to Miss Significant Time

Lead Story

A more definitive answer on the injury to Florida State’s ace is expected to come Wednesday afternoon.

Junior pitcher Tyler Holton will be evalauted further, FSU head coach Mike Martin said after a 5-2 win over South Florida on Tuesday, but a source told The Daily Nole that Holton is expected to miss an extended period of time. An All-American in 2017, Holton left his the season opener against Xavier with an apparent arm injury in an 11-1 win on Friday.

Holton worked 4 2/3 scoreless innings in the opener, allowing just one hit while striking out six before being pulled. Cole Sands and Drew Parrish are expected to move up to the Friday and Saturday spots for this weekend’s series against Troy. A Sunday starter has not yet been named.

Between the Lines

FSU baseball defeated South Florida on Tuesday, 5-2. FSU softball was defeated by McNeese State, 6-1.

On the Agenda

FSU swimming and diving will resume the ACC Championships on Wednesday. FSU softball will play a doubleheader at South Alabama.

News and Notes

FSU softball pitcher Kylee Hanson was named ACC Pitcher of the Week and second baseman Sydney Sherrill has been named ACC Softball Player of the Week.

Hanson was also named USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Week as well as NFCA National Pitcher of the Week.

FSU women’s hoops was ranked 12th in the USA Today Coaches Poll.
