The Daily Nole — Feb. 18, 2018: FSU Softball Splits Two in ACC/Big Ten Challenge

Lead Story

After winning on Friday night, No. 8 Florida State split a pair of Tallahassee contests in the ACC/Big Ten Softball Challenge on Saturday. After topping 14th-ranked Minnesota 9-3, the Seminoles suffered their first loss of the season against No. 20 Michigan, 1-0.

Cassidy Davis, Anna Shelnutt and Carsyn Gordon each left the yard for the Seminoles in their victory over Minnesota. Shelnutt and Davis each drove in three runs while Sydney Sherrill was 4-for-4 at the plate with a pair of runs scored. Erika Rozell was 2-for-3 for the Golden Gophers with a run scored and an RBI. Kaylee Hanson earned the win for FSU.

Meghan King went the distance and allowed just one run on four hits in the nightcap, but got no run support. The Seminoles managed just two hits off Michigan’s Meghan Beaubien. Tera Blanco had two of the four Michigan hits on Saturday and drove in the only Wolverines’ run.

FSU wraps up the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Sunday against Michigan at 1 p.m. EST.

Between the Lines

In addition to softball, FSU swimming and diving wrapped up the first part of the ACC Championships on Saturday. FSU track and field continued the UCS Invitational in Winston-Salem. FSU women’s tennis defeated both Air Force and Georgia Southern by 7-0 scores. FSU baseball defeated Xavier, 7-2.

On the Agenda

In addition to softball, FSU baseball wraps up its 3-game series with Xavier at 1 p.m. EST on ACC Network Extra. FSU basketball will host Pittsburgh at 6 p.m. EST on ESPNU.

News and Notes

FSU basketball defeated Pittsburgh on Sunday night, 88-75.

FSU baseball defeated Xavier on Sunday to complete the 3-game sweep.
