It’s the weekend, Florida State fans. As you try to relax and enjoy your day, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

Despite playing in just one game in 2017 and being thought to be in a position battle for a starting spot, Florida State quarterback Deondre Francois is listed as an early Heisman Trophy contender for 2018.

According to Sports Betting Dime’s opening odds, Francois is a 30-to-1 bet to win the 2018 Heisman Trophy. Francois tore his patella tendon in the 2017 opener, which resulted in a 24-7 loss to eventual national champion Alabama.

Francois was named the ACC Rookie of the Year for his performance as a redshirt freshman in 2016, but the early injury this past season allowed James Blackman to earn valuable playing time. Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm was listed as the most likely Heisman candidate at 10-to-1. The only ACC player given a better chance to win the Heisman was Clemson quarterback Kelly Bryant at 25-to-1.
