FSU’s Jalen Wilkerson Declares for Draft

To the surprise of many, Josh Sweat isn’t the only Florida State defensive end declaring for the 2018 NFL Draft.

Redshirt sophomore Jalen Wilkerson announced the decision to forego his junior season to enter the draft via Facebook on Monday night. Wilkerson had a career-year in 2017, but wasn’t thought to be a highly-sought NFL prospect.

A source told The Daily Nole that grades were an issue. According to his Facebook page, Wilkerson is set to become a father.

Originally recruited as a tight end, Wilkerson converted to defensive end as a redshirt freshman in 2016 and recorded three tackles. This past season, Wilkerson recorded 19 tackles, including six for loss, 0.5 sacks and a fumble recovery.

Wilkerson joins Sweat, safety Derwin James, tight end Ryan Izzo, wide receiver Auden Tate and cornerback Tarvarus McFadden as Seminoles to declare early for the draft. The 2018 NFL Draft will be held in Dallas from April 26-28.
