It’s Tuesday, Florida State fans. As your work week chugs along, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

For the fifth time under head coach Nick Saban, Alabama is college football’s national champion. The Crimson Tide rallied from a 20-7 deficit on Monday night in Atlanta to beat Georgia, 26-23, in overtime of the National Championship.

Tua Tagovailoa, a freshman quarterback, entered the game for an ineffective Jalen Hurts to start the second half and proceeded to lead the comeback. Tagovailoa found Calvin Ridley from seven yards out with four minutes to play to tie the game and had the Crimson Tide in position to win late, but Andy Pappanastos missed a 36-yard field goal as time expired.

After forcing a Georgia field goal to start overtime, Tagovailoa hit DeVonta Smith for a 41-yard touchdown to clinch the victory. Tagovailoa passed for 166 yards and three touchdowns in the win. Georgia’s Jake Fromm passed for 225 yards in the loss while Sony Michel rushed for a game-high 98 yards for the Bulldogs.
