Derwin James won’t be playing for Florida State in the Independence Bowl, but he’s still making news.

On Monday, the redshirt sophomore safety was named a first-team All-American by Football Writers Association of America. James didn’t have the season that many had expected, but still did enough to earn the recognition.

James finished his final season in Tallahassee with 84 total tackles, 5.5 for loss and one sack. James also led the team with two interceptions, 11 pass break-ups in addition to scoring a defensive touchdown.

James is expected to go very high in the 2018 NFL Draft and made the announcement earlier this month that the regular season finale against Louisiana-Monroe would be his last in garnet and gold. To view the entire FWAA All-American team, click here.
