FSU Baseball Team Gets 2017 ACC Championship Rings

The Florida State baseball team picked quite the day to commemorate its 2017 ACC championship. The team receiving their rings was slightly overshadowed by Jimbo Fisher resigning from his position as head football coach of the Florida State Seminoles to take the same position with Texas A&M in College Station.

But, Mike Martin is still the head ball coach of the baseball team and he handed out new hardware to current and former players on Friday, who were a part of the crazy 2017 season. After a dreadful regular season, FSU came on late and claimed the school its seventh ACC championship.

The rings highlight Martin and Florida State’s success over the past 40 seasons with a reminder that the Noles have won at least 40 games or more during that span.

The Seminoles had to defeat Notre Dame, Louisville, Duke, and North Carolina in order to claim the ACC title in Louisville. The Noles outscored their opponents by a combined score of 23-8 in those four match-ups.

This was the Seminoles third consecutive trip to the ACC Championship game. FSU defeated N.C. State 6-2 to claim the title in 2015. Clemson got the better of the Noles in 2016 in what was anything but an ordinary game. The Tigers won it 18-13, but Florida State found its way back to the top of the conference in 2017 with a 7-3 come-from-behind victory over North Carolina.

The FSU baseball Twitter account put together a video of the crazy run the Seminoles had through the conference tournament and into NCAA Regional and Super Regional play.

The Florida State Seminoles have a lot to play for in 2018. The Seminoles will look to make a fourth straight trip to the ACC Championship and return to Omaha for the second year in a row. Martin is also just 32-wins shy of becoming the winningest coach in college baseball history.

FSU will open the season against Xavier on Feb. 16 at 4 p.m. EST at Dick Howser Stadium.
