It’s Sunday, Florida State fans. Before you head back to work, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics as we update the news and notes section throughout the day.

Lead Story

Florida State outlasted Duke on Saturday to pick up its second win of the year, but it was a day of firsts for a number of Seminoles.

The most notable was the first career touchdown for freshman running back Cam Akers, who scored from 42 yards out with 8:25 to go for the winning touchdown in a 17-10 win. Sophomore linebacker Emmett Rice also recorded his first career interception in the second quarter to thwart a Duke scoring drive.

On the receiving end, freshman D.J. Matthews and senior Jared Jackson each caught their first career passes. Matthews’ catch went for 12 yards and a first down while Jackson’s went for three.

Between the Lines

In addition to FSU football’s 17-10 win over Duke, FSU’s men swimming and diving team beat Duke, but lost to Virginia Tech on Saturday. The women lost to both Duke and Virginia Tech. FSU men’s tennis continued the ITA Southeast Regional Championships.

On the Agenda

FSU men’s tennis will continue the ITA Southeast Regional Championships on Sunday. FSU soccer will be at Wake Forest on Sunday while FSU volleyball visits Duke. Both of those matches begin at 1 p.m. EST and air on ACC Network Extra.
