The Daily Nole — May 30, 2017: FSU Baseball With Nation’s Longest Tournament Streak

Atlantic Coast Conference

Hopefully, you enjoyed your Memorial Day weekend, Florida State fans. As you get back into the swing of things, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

Florida State learned who would join it in the Tallahassee Regional on Monday, but that wasn’t the only thing of significance for FSU’s baseball program.

While seven ACC teams were awarded a spot in the NCAA Tournament, one notable one was not. That team is FSU’s rival, Miami. The Hurricanes had the nation’s longest NCAA streak at 44 years, but as a no show this year, that distinction now belongs to Florida State at 40 years in a row.

The Tallahassee Democrat reports that’s the longest active streak across all college sports. FSU will look to win 40 games for a 40th year in a row as it opens the NCAA Tournament against Tennessee Tech on Friday night. Although the 2006 Emerald Bowl was technically vacated, FSU also holds college football’s longest bowl streak at 35 straight years.

Between the Lines

FSU men’s golf finished tied for 14th in the NCAA Championships and failed to advance to match play.

On the Agenda

There are no FSU athletic events scheduled for Tuesday.

News and Notes

Baseball and track and field are the final two FSU programs playing this academic year.
