FSU Selected as NCAA Tournament Regional Host

Atlantic Coast Conference

A couple weeks ago, Florida State was thought to be on the NCAA Tournament bubble. Now, the Seminoles are a regional host.

The good news came Sunday night, just hours after FSU secured its seventh ACC championship. FSU went a perfect 4-0 during its time in Louisville, capping the ACC Tournament with a 7-3 win over No. 2 seed North Carolina.

The Seminoles will enter the NCAA Tournament red hot and winners of six straight as well as 11 of 13. FSU entered its final series of the regular season against then No. 2 Louisville with a record of 33-20 and 12-14 in the ACC.

After winning both contests against the Cardinals, FSU kicked off the ACC Tournament with a dramatic 5-3, 12-inning win over Notre Dame on Wednesday on a walk-off home run by Jackson Lueck. The eighth-seeded Seminoles completed a perfect tournament with three straight 4-run victories, including wins over the tournament’s top two seeds in Louisville and North Carolina.

Lueck was named the ACC Tournament MVP while pitcher Tyler Holton, third baseman Dylan Busby and first baseman Drew Mendoza were also named to the all-tournament team. Holton threw eight strong innings in Friday’s 6-2 win over Louisville. Busby hit in every game, which included a home run against Duke in the semifinals. Mendoza had a pair of home runs and four RBIs in Sunday’s title-clinching contest.

Florida State will host the Tallahassee Regional from Friday through at least Sunday and possibly Monday. The Seminoles will learn which schools will join them there during the NCAA Selection Show on Monday. FSU was 23-12 at home this season.
