The Daily Nole — May 28, 2017: FSU Men’s Golf Looks to Keep Season Alive

It’s Sunday, Florida State. Before you settle in for another huge day of FSU action, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

A couple Florida State programs will be looking to keep their seasons alive on Sunday. FSU softball will be one of them, but the other is the FSU men’s golf team.

Through two days of play in Illinois, the Seminoles sit in 11th place out of 30 teams as the third round begins on Sunday. For the NCAA Championships, FSU is -2 while UNLV is in first place at -14.

For Florida State to earn the right to play again on Monday, it must remain in the top 15. From there, the top eight teams will move on to match play. LSU and Baylor are presently tied for seventh at -8.

Individually, Harris Ellis has paced the Seminoles. Ellis currently sits in a tie for sixth place at -6. He’s only two strokes off the lead, held by Scottie Scheffler of Texas.

Between the Lines

In addition to golf, FSU track and field wrapped up the NCAA East Preliminaries in Kentucky on Saturday. FSU baseball booked a third straight trip to the ACC Championship by beating Duke in the ACC Tournament semifinals, 5-1. FSU softball’s season was pushed to the brink as the Seminoles fell 1-0 to LSU in the second game of the Tallahassee Super Regional.

On the Agenda

In addition to golf, FSU baseball will go for a seventh ACC crown as it takes on North Carolina for the ACC Championship at noon EST on ESPN2. FSU softball looks to keep its season alive as it takes on LSU at 1 p.m. EST on ESPN.

News and Notes

North Carolina beat Miami 12-4 on Saturday night to advance to the ACC Championship against FSU.

16 track and field athletes for FSU qualified for the NCAA Championships.

Florida State’s softball season came to an end as the Seminoles fell to LSU in the decisive game of the Tallahassee Super Regional, 6-4.

Florida State scored the final seven runs to top North Carolina for a seventh ACC baseball championship, 7-3.

FSU outfielder Jackson Lueck was named ACC Tournament MVP. Dylan Busby, Drew Mendoza and Tyler Holton were each named to the all-tournament team.

FSU baseball will host the Tallahassee Regional of the NCAA Tournament. The Seminoles will learn who will join them on Monday.
