For the second straight day, Florida State met Florida International at the CCSA Tournament, but on Sunday, it was for a bigger prize.

The Seminoles defeated the Golden Panthers 3-0 in the CCSA Championship to win a second straight conference crown. For the tournament in Emerson, Georgia, top-seeded FSU finished a perfect 5-0.

FSU was able to defeat Florida International on Sunday by winning three matches in straight sets. Hailey Luke and Eva Torruella got the Seminoles started on the right foot, easily defeating the FIU combo of Anabela Sataric and Estefanie Bethancour, 21-12, 21-5.

Florida State pairs of Macy Jerger/Sierra Sanchez and Vanessa Freire/Victoria Paranagua also each won in straight sets. Leigh Andrew and Brooke Kuhlan dropped the first set to Florida International’s Margherita Bianchin and Frederica Frasca, 21-17 and were trailing 17-16 in the second set when the match ended. Katie Horton and Francesca Goncalves won the first set for FSU over Katie Hogan and Lina Bernier, 21-15, but were trailing 19-10 in the second set.

The tandem of Freire and Paranagua were named the MVPs of the tournament, going a perfect 5-0 without losing a single set in the tournament. With the title, FSU will head back to the NCAA Championships in Gulf Shores, Alabama where it finished as national runners-up a season ago. The field of eight will be announced next Sunday.
