For the first time since losing the conference opener against Boston College, Florida State is below .500 in ACC play. For the second straight day in Raleigh, North Carolina State jumped to a early lead and kept it in an 8-4 victory to take the series on Sunday.

With the loss, the Seminoles fall to 21-13 overall and 7-8 in ACC play. Florida State will play four games this upcoming week, beginning with rival Florida on Tuesday. Next weekend, the Seminoles will host a 3-game series with Clemson.

The Good: N.C. State had its best offensive day at the plate during the series as the Wolfpack pounded out 13 hits, including five for extra bases. The eighth inning when Drew Carlton worked a perfect frame for the Seminoles was the only inning where N.C. State did not have a base runner.

The Bad: Despite having a 6-run lead after seven, the Wolfpack bullpen made things interesting. It gave up a run in both the eighth and ninth innings and allowed FSU to bring the tying run to the plate. Fortunately for N.C. State, Cal Raleigh bounced out to end the threat. FSU managed just six hits on Sunday.

The Ugly: North Carolina State erupted with four runs in the first inning and one more with the third to take a 5-0 lead a third of the way through. Unfortunately for the Seminoles, N.C. State didn’t have a single base runner before there were two outs in either inning. The Wolfpack had five straight men reach in the first after FSU starter Drew Parrish recorded the first two outs. Defense continued to be an issue for FSU as an error in the inning by right fielder Nick Derr allowed Brett Kinneman to get to third base on a single.

Studs of the Game: N.C. State’s Brett Kinneman was 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Will Wilson and Joe Dunand each had two hits and two RBIs. Dunand also homered and scored a pair of runs. For FSU, Drew Mendoza was 2-for-4 with a 2-run home run.

Duds of the Game: Parrish allowed seven runs for the Seminoles in 3 1/3 innings on Sunday. At the dish, lead-off man Taylor Walls was 0-for-5 with a strikeout. Clean-up hitter Brad Debo was the only N.C. State starter without a hit.
