It’s Sunday, Florida State fans. As your weekend winds down, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

Florida State redshirt sophomore safety Derwin James reminded everyone why he was so valuable during Saturday’s spring. In a 17-7 Garnet loss to the Gold, James was all over the field.

James finished the day with a game-high seven tackles, three for loss, and two sacks. James had a couple other jarring hits that broke up passes and proved he hasn’t lost a step.

James played in just two games in 2016 before succumbing to a season-ending meniscus tear. Partially as a result, the Seminoles struggled defensively early on in the year. As a freshman in 2015, James ranked in the top 3 for FSU in tackles, sacks, tackles for loss and forced fumbles.

Between the Lines

In addition to football, the FSU track and field team competed in the UNF Twilight in Jacksonville. FSU men’s golf sits in second place at the Irish Creek Intercollegiate in North Carolina, two strokes back of Kennesaw State. FSU beach volleyball shut out South Carolina, 5-0. FSU softball defeated Syracuse 18-9 and FSU baseball fell at N.C. State on Saturday, 4-3.

On the Agenda

FSU men’s golf wraps up the Irish Creek Intercollegiate. FSU softball will play a doubleheader at Syracuse. FSU baseball concludes at 3-game set at N.C. State at 1 p.m. in a contest that airs on ACC Network Extra. FSU men’s tennis hosts Boston College.

News and Notes

Senior linebacker Jacob Pugh won FSU’s Hinesman Award, which goes to the best player of the spring.

Florida State fell to N.C. State in the rubber game on Sunday, 8-4.
