It’s Tuesday, Florida State fans. Though its early in the week, there is a lot going on and we’ll try to keep you on top of all of it. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.
Lead Story
For Florida State baseball, the early parts of the 2017 season have not gone as planned, but for designated hitter Quincy Nieporte, that’s not the case.
Almost 40 percent of the way through the season, Nieporte leads the nation in RBIs with 34. During FSU’s recent 3-game series with Virginia Tech, Nieporte hit a pair of grand slams, giving him four on the year. That set a new school-record for a single season and is one short of tying the school-record.
After what most considered a down year in 2016, Nieporte is hitting .310 and leads the team with six home runs. Though it’s unlikely he can maintain his current pace, Nieporte is in line to finish with 91 RBIs by the end of the regular season. The school-record is 124 from Jeff Ledbetter in 1982.
Between the Lines
After two days at the Valspar Collegiate Invitational, FSU men’s golf is tied for 10th place.
On the Agenda
FSU will wrap up the Valspar Collegiate Invitational on Tuesday. FSU baseball will host Jacksonville in a contest that begins at 6 p.m. EST and airs on ACC Network Extra.
News and Notes
FSU’s women’s track and field team will start No. 10 nationally in the outdoor USTFCCCA Poll.
FSU beach volleyball remains No. 4 in this week’s AVCA Poll.
FSU was among the top 10 schools for 4-star defensive end Jamarcus Chatman. Chatman, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, is the No. 14 strongside defensive end for 2018.
The FSU women’s Sweet 16 contest with Oregon State will begin at 6 p.m. EST and will air on ESPN.
FSU softball third baseman Jessica Warren was named ACC Player of the Week. Jessica Burroughs was named ACC Pitcher of the Week.
Florida State rallied from seven runs down on Tuesday night to beat Jacksonville, 10-9.
