It was a tough weekend for Florida State’s baseball team, but the same was not true for the school’s top-ranked softball program. Over the weekend, FSU swept Notre Dame, winning the three games by a combined margin of 28-0.
Meghan King and Jessica Burroughs opened the series with complete-game shutouts as the Seminoles took the Friday and Saturday contests, each by 6-0 scores. On Sunday, the Fighting Irish was run-ruled after five innings, 16-0.
At the plate, Alex Powers and Jessica Warren each had big series. Warren homered twice while Powers, Cali Harrod and Anna Shelnutt all left the yard during the 3-game set. For the season, FSU is 28-1-1. It will visit UCF on Wednesday before opening a 3-game series at Virginia on Friday.
Between the Lines
In addition to softball, the FSU women’s golf team finished third at the Notre Dame Clover Cup in Arizona. The men’s team currently sits in 11th at the Valspar Collegiate Invitational at Palm Bay. The FSU women’s tennis team fell 6-1 to North Carolina while the men beat Miami, 7-0. The FSU baseball team was shut out against Virginia Tech in the rubber game, 17-0. FSU women’s basketball advanced to a third straight Sweet 16 with a 77-55 win over Missouri in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
On the Agenda
The FSU men’s golf team will continue to compete in the Valspar Invitational.
News and Notes
FSU baseball fell 12 spots in the Baseball America Poll from second to No. 14. FSU also fell 12 spots from No. 1 to 13th in the D1Baseball.com Poll and from sixth to 18th in the Collegiate Baseball. The NCBWA Poll will be released later Monday.
The ACC will announce players of the week for various sports.
