The Daily Rundown — Feb. 7, 2017: FSU Women Attain Highest Ranking Ever

It’s Tuesday, Florida State fans. We’ll keep you on top of the latest in FSU athletics by updating the news and notes section throughout the day.

Lead Story

Florida State’s women’s basketball team moved up one spot to No. 5 in the AP Poll on Monday. That gives FSU its highest ranking in program history.

The Seminoles proceeded to top Miami in a thrilling 80-71 victory at home on Monday night. The FSU lead was as close as three in the waning minutes, but the Seminoles ultimately held off the rival Hurricanes.

Shakayla Thomas and Chatrice White each scored 19 points to lead Florida State. White also ripped down a game-high 14 rebounds. Brittany Brown scored 13 points in the victory while Ivey Slaughter added 11. Keyona Hayes scored 17 points to lead Miami.

Between the Lines

Aside from the women’s basketball game, the FSU men’s golf team currently sits in fourth place at the Sea Best Invitational.

News and Notes

After a pair of 10-day contracts, the Miami Heat signed former FSU forward Okaro White to a 2-year deal. Since signing White, the Heat have won 11 straight games.

FSU track and field signee Chauncy Smart won’t attend Florida State. Smart wants to attend a school that will allow him to play football.

Four Florida State soccer players were honored with a selection to the All-ACC Academic team.
