It’s Monday, Florida State fans. For those of you heading back to work, enjoy your day. For those of you getting the day off, enjoy yours as well. We’ll keep you up to speed on the latest in FSU athletics by updating the news and notes section throughout the day.

Lead Story

When it comes to Florida State and the running back position, the departure of Dalvin Cook and the commitment of 5-star Cam Akers have stolen the headlines of late, but Sunday was a reminder that the future of the FSU backfield goes beyond Akers.

Khalan Laborn, a 4-star FSU running back commit, was named the MVP of the Under Armour All-American game, finishing with 74 yards rushing and a touchdown as well as a 41-yard kickoff return for Team Highlight in a 24-21 loss to Team Armour. Laborn is the No. 41 overall prospect for 2017, according to the 247Sports Composite and will be one of three running backs coming in for FSU along with Akers and Zaquandre White.

“There’s definitely going to be a lot of competition, but I like competition,” Laborn told The Daily Nole in August. “We’re all on the same team, but at the end of the day, it’s still a competition. I won’t worry about it too much. I’m confident.”

5-star defensive end and FSU commitment Joshua Kaindoh was also stellar in Sunday’s game in Orlando, tallying six tackles and a pass break-up for Team Highlight. 4-star safety and fellow FSU Cyrus Fagan had a tackle and a pass break-up. 5-star cornerback commit Stanford Samuels III sat out the game with a shoulder injury.

Florida State’s women’s basketball team moved up one spot to No. 6 in the AP Poll, which ties the highest ranking in program history.
