The Daily Nole — Dec. 21, 2016: Lane Suffers Foot Injury

Jeremy Esbrandt/FSU athletics

Happy hump day, Florida State fans. We hope you are all having a wonderful holiday season. Though it’s a slow time for FSU athletics, we’ll keep up to the date on the latest in the news and notes section.

Lead Story

It appears Florida State’s depleted safety position has become a little more depleted. According to multiple reports, junior safety Ermon Lane has suffered a significant foot injury and will likely miss the Capital One Orange Bowl against No. 6 Michigan on Dec. 30.

A former 5-star wide receiver recruit, Lane converted to safety in the middle of the 2016 season and made a significant impact, recording 37 tackles and an interception. The Seminoles will also be without safeties Derwin James and Nate Andrews against Michigan. Both of those players were lost early in the season.

With that trio out, players like A.J. Westbrook, Calvin Brewton and Carlos Becker could all see increased playing time. The Seminoles are looking to notch a fifth straight 10-win season.

Between the Lines

There were no FSU athletic events scheduled for Tuesday.

On the Agenda

FSU’s women’s basketball team will host Mercer at 7 p.m. EST on ACC Network Extra.

News and Notes

5-star running back Cam Akers will make his decision on Dec. 27. Akers is thought to be headed to either Florida State or Ole Miss.

Three former Florida State players made the NFL’s Pro Bowl. Atlanta Falcons’ running back Devonta Freeman and Minnesota Vikings’ cornerback Xavier Rhodes will each play for the NFC. Oakland Raiders’ center Rodney Hudson will play for the AFC.
