Happy hump day, Florida State fans. Wednesday will be another light one in FSU athletics, but we’ll keep you posted by updating the news and notes section throughout the day.

Lead Story

Florida State wide receivers coach and co-offensive coordinator Lawrence Dawsey is said to be one of the candidates South Florida is considering for its head coaching position. The job became open on Tuesday when USF head coach Willie Taggart accepted to become the new head coach at Oregon.

Other potential candidates to head to Tampa are Ohio State defensive coordinator Greg Schiano, Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin and former Louisville and Texas head coach Charlie Strong. Of the four mentioned, Dawsey is the only one without head coaching experience at a Power 5 school. Schiano had success as head man at Rutgers before leaving to become the head coach of the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Kiffin coached at both Tennessee and USC.

Dawsey was a receiver at Florida State from 1987-90 and finished with more than 2,000 yards receiving in his career and 21 touchdowns. Dawsey’s ties to the area are well known as he was drafted by the Buccaneers and has been responsible for recruiting the greater Tampa area in recent years. Dawsey has been an assistant at FSU since 2007.
