It’s officially the start of Thanksgiving week or as Florida State fans refer to it, UF Hate Week. We’re six days from the rivalry game between FSU and Florida, but we’ll get you there. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

Entering the season, most felt it was only a matter of time before Florida State junior running back Dalvin Cook surpassed Warrick Dunn as the school’s all-time rusher. A matter of time came in the Carrier Dome on Saturday.

At the place where he recorded his first 100-yard game, Cook broke Dunn’s record of 3,959 career rushing yards on his second carry which went for 41 yards. Cook needed just 19 yards coming into the game, but would finish the day with 225 yards rushing and four touchdowns. Cook did lose two fumbles in a 45-14 victory.

Cook’s four rushing touchdowns gave him 44 for his career, which also tied Greg Allen for the most rushing touchdowns in FSU history. Cook’s 225-yard effort was the fifth best in FSU history, giving Cook four of the seven highest rushing days in school-history.

For the year, Cook has 1,467 yards rushing and 17 touchdowns. Though Cook is eligible to return next season, he will likely play in front of the Doak Campbell Stadium crowd for the final time Saturday against rival Florida.

Between the Lines

FSU football defeated Syracuse 45-14 on Saturday behind 225 yards rushing and four touchdowns from running back Dalvin Cook. Two FSU runners participated in the NCAA Cross Country Championships. On the men’s side, Harry Mulenga finished 82nd. On the women’s side, Carmela Cardama came in 73rd.

On the Agenda

Both the FSU men and women’s basketball teams will be in action at home Sunday. The FSU women will take on James Madison at 1 p.m. EST and the men will play Detroit Mercy in the NIT Season Tip-Off at 5 p.m. EST. Both games will air on ACC Network Extra. The FSU volleyball team will be on the road against Wake Forest.

News and Notes

Florida State’s contest with Florida on Saturday will begin at 8 p.m. EST and will air on ABC. The contest was given the 6-day option on Monday.

FSU linebacker commitment DeMarco Artis will find out the extent of his knee injury on Monday. Sources close to the situation believe it’s just a hyper-extension. The 3-star linebacker out of Seminole High School in Sanford injured the knee in a 48-41 playoff win over Lake Brantley on Friday.

Legendary Florida State defensive back Monk Bonasorte has passed away from brain cancer. Bonasorte is among the school’s all-time leaders in interceptions and later became an athletic department administrator. He was 59 years old.

Florida State moved up one spot to No. 14 in the Amway Coaches Poll. The Seminoles moved up two spots to No. 15 in the AP Poll.

FSU’s men’s basketball team improved to 4-0 with a 100-71 victory over Detroit Mercy in the NIT Season Tip-Off. Dwayne Bacon led the Seminoles with 22 points.
