Happy hump day, Florida State fans. It’s a light day for FSU athletics, but a big weekend is ahead. The news and notes section of this post will be updated.

Lead Story

The Jimbo Fisher to LSU rumors gained traction on Tuesday as NOLA.com reported that LSU had reached out to Fisher’s representatives and that the Florida State head coach has long been the guy coveted by LSU athletic director Joe Alleva.

Fisher’s ties to LSU are well known. Fisher spent seven years in Baton Rogue as a quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator and helped the Tigers win the 2003 national championship. In 2007, Fisher joined Bobby Bowden’s staff at FSU and became head coach in 2010.

Fisher currently has a $5 million buyout. His current contract at FSU would pay him about $44 million through 2022, according to the report. Fisher is 75-17 with three ACC titles and a national championship in nearly seven years at FSU.

Between the Lines

Behind 20 points from Jonathan Isaac and six players in double-figures, FSU’s men’s basketball team defeated Iona on Tuesday night, 99-78.

On the Agenda

There are no FSU athletic events scheduled for Wednesday.

News and Notes

Fisher said Tuesday that he would not talk about other jobs, but “loves it” at Florida State.

The Seminoles moved up one spot in the College Football Playoff rankings.

Florida State’s Dwayne Bacon was among 50 players named to the John Wooden Award watch list on Tuesday.

FSU running back Dalvin Cook was named a semifinalist for the Doak Walker Award on Wednesday. The award is annually given to the nation’s best running back.
